About Free Canasta

A familiar game. A little more comfort.

Free Canasta is made by RioSeco Studio, LLC for people who want to sit down and play.

Three games, thoughtfully explained

We focus on Classic Canasta, Samba Canasta and Hand & Foot. They share a love of building combinations, keeping a good card, and working with a partner. We give each one its own rules and room at the table.

Our promises

  • Play without an account or a download.
  • Take as long as you need. There are no turn timers.
  • Use readable cards and controls with words, not hidden gestures.
  • Know which rules you are playing and why a move is allowed.
  • Play against computers that do not peek at hidden cards.

A library beside the playing tables

The site has two uses: playing a partnership card game at your own pace and understanding the rules well enough to enjoy it. The reading room is a separate route through those explanations. It includes first-game walkthroughs, full rules, pickup examples, practical strategy, worked scoring and printable PDFs for a physical table.

We describe the defaults used here rather than presenting one local variation as the only correct way to play. Classic, Dutch Samba and partnership Hand & Foot have different requirements. Our references identify the source of those choices; the examples explain how they apply on this site.

What the table companions are

The named participants and cartoon portraits represent fictional computer players. They let you play a four-seat partnership game without waiting for live players. Their identities remain with the match after you leave and return. They are not profiles of people currently connected to the website.

The companion catalogue explains their playing levels and preferred hours. Their decisions use their own cards and visible information.
